Myoskeletal Alignment Technique
Myoskeletal Alignment Technique or MAT is an advanced method of bodywork developed in the early 80’s by Dr. Erik Dalton, PhD. which draws from his research and work with some of the great leaders in holistic health care. These leaders included Vladimir Janda, M.D, Dr. Ida Rolf, PhD and Phillip Greenman, DO. Debra has earned her Master's in Myoskeletal Alignment Technique, MMT, through Dr. Dalton's Freedom from Pain Institute and continues her studies of this incredibly effective technique.
MAT incorporates aspects of deep massage, osteopathy and structural integration to relieve chronic pain patterns and reduce the potential emergence of structural patterns that could become chronic pain generators over time. Muscles that are tight and stressed contribute to pain by limiting freedom of movement. Weak, compressed muscles contribute to pain patterns by not providing adequate support for the body. These two muscular conditions working together lead to problems with posture, stiffness, reduced mobility and other dysfunctions of the body which create an endless cycle of pain.
Myoskeletal Alignment Technique can be integrated into a traditional deep massage/bodywork session or used alone to treat systemic problems. Debra uses her advanced training in Myoskeletal Alignment Technique to focus on detecting and addressing strain patterns in the muscle, joints, fascia and hard tissue of the body to realign these tissues and break the cycle of pain and the patterns that created the cycle.
Myoskeletal Alignment Technique and Myofascial Relaease are effective therapeutic approaches in relieving a wide range of issues including but not limited to, back and cervical pain, headaches, fibromyalgia, scoliosis, decreased range of motion and hip and joint pain.
